EXPLORING COASTAL CHALLENGES IN THE MEKONG DELTA
The Living Lab consists of three research locations in the Mekong Delta, where coastal challenges are explored through continuous on-site research.
The Mekong Delta for 90% underwater by 2050?
Home to nearly 20 million people, the Mekong Delta faces rising threats from land loss and flooding. Without action, up to 90% could be underwater by 2050.

What we do?
We are the Living Lab, we bring together research, innovation, and collaboration to tackle these challenges. Across three locations, we study real-world interventions to understand and demonstrate what works. This digital Living Lab illustrates the drivers shaping the processes in delta and the interventions that can guide it toward future-proof solutions.
For decades, the Vietnamese government has made efforts to protect mangroves and coastlines in the Mekong Delta. Although significant investments have been made, the majority of interventions have not achieved their intended results. This map shows the mangrove loss from 1988 to 2025, along with the interventions implemented in the Nhà Mát area.
